The Packers are taking a little break after their rookie mini-camp last weekend. The first year players will join veterans for the first time when phase two of the 0ff-season program begins next week. Organized Team Activities will start on May 20. At Lambeau Field on Monday, new defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley and offensive coordinator Adam Stenavich met reporters. Hafley had high praise for Xavier McKinney, the sought after New York Giant safety signed to a lucrative contract by the Packers earlier this spring. Hafley said “X” has been a real pro in taking on what’s expected to be a critical position in his new defensive scheme. Even though he’s had very little on field work with his unit so far, the system implementation plan is taking shape before it’s all systems go come training camp:
As for offensive side of the ball, Stenavich said he’s really excited to see how his young group will pick up where they left off last season as first year quarterback Jordan Love emerged as a premier playmaker with nothing but first and second year wide receivers and tight ends. The running back room will be different with Josh Jacobs replacing Aaron Jones and up front, it will be a very interesting off-season. With David Bakhtiari, Jon Runyan and Yosh Nijman all departed and three offensive lineman drafted, including first round pick Jordan Morgan, the OL possibilities are almost endless.
The Packers signed three players who in Green Bay last week on a tryout basis. Two of them are wide receivers including Dimitri Stanley, the son of former Packer wideout Walter Stanley. Julian Hicks was also given a contract along with offensive lineman Lecitus Smith. To make for them of the roster, the Packers waived defensive Anthony Johnson, defensive lineman DeAndre Johnson and they waived/injured, receiver Thyrick Pitts.
